I just arrived home from a Daniel Melingo's show. Wow is all I can say. What a character!
If you don't know Melingo's music you should. In Argentina people say he is the the rightful heir of the great Edmundo Rivero. The joyful milonguish rhythm of the music contrasts with his low resonant voice, making it one in a trillion. As if this wasn't enough his theatrical but not over the top interpretation of the music grips everyone's attention.
He got two full standing ovations and twice he came back on stage. First with his bandmates, and then alone, unplugged, with a microphone and a guitar.
I remember Melingo as one of the first artists that stood out when I started doing tango. I always thought how his live show would be. I can tell you now. It's fantastic.
If you have the opportunity, go and see it!

Can somebody (or Santa) get me a miniature Daniel Melingo for X'mas? It has to be a live one, if otherwise, get me a figurine that moves and sounds exactly like him?
oh you are so lucky! The man is a genius, but well genius doesn't come for free. When I saw him he was fine for about 30 minutes then after a wee backstage break turned so self indulgent and rambling (in a BAD way) that the people who I had persuaded to come with me had to sit in their hands to keep them off my neck. If you get a mini version, supa, make sure you only feed it HEALTHY things.
Hi Claudita:
Yesterday was nothing like that! Maybe because the crowd wasn't too big, the concert was quite intimate. Don't know but I can't stop letting my friends who were supposed to come and didn't what a great gig they lost!
;o)
And supa, would that miniature also be able to tell bedside tales? :oD
Yeah yeah, some bonus features/functions such as reading out bedtime stories would be so exciting! He is really blessed with such a bewitchingly interesting voice and full of expressions inside it. If he sings to me "don't cry and be happy" I think it might actually lead me to be happy :-)
