Expensive taste

If there is something that I am fussy about it's shoes. I can't buy shoes that I absolutely don't fall in love with, I just can't wear them. Everytime I have to buy shoes I know what expects me - long days watching every window in the quest for the perfect fit.
With tango shoes, is the same. Not that I have bought many, I haven't, but mine have started to deteorate so much that they are not working anymore. No grip, they are starting to fall to bits and they have developed a groovy but not so fashionable air conditioned system.
So, let's surf the net in look for the perfect fit. I look, look, look and, as if they came from heaven I find the PERFECT SHOES. They might look horrible to you but I never said that I had good taste! ;o)
Very excited, I email the company and they give me quote. £110 ($225)!!! They are more expensive than Comme Il Fauts!!! It seems that they have a fantastic and innovative sole that allows to be changed for different pavements... Is there anybody that can help me with this? Does it really work?

Sorry KR. But to me it sounds like a marketing gimmick. There is no ONE solution for EVERY situation :-)

Don't forget the age-old saying..."If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is."

They probably deliver the shoes with two or three rolls of tape in the box - duct tape for slippery surfaces, masking tape for sticky surfaces...(grin).

Plus, in the image, you can obviously tell it's a "normal" shoe with a glued on sole.

I've had great luck with NeoTangos - but beware of models with a split, two-piece sole - I always buy shoes with a sole made of one continuous piece of leather - less chance for failure at the seam.

Although now that I actually "look" at all of the images, that insert on the forefoot could be removable/replaceable.

As long as you can return them, if you can choke down the cost, it might be worth looking into a bit further - especially if you need shoes to dance on wood floors, pavement, etc.

Good luck!

Yep alex, I totally agree with you and johanna. They say they have this innovation, there is a patent pending, it will be the shoe of the future... So how come I haven't heard of it before?
I think with a bit of good research, the idea can be quite fantastic. I am sure that when the shoes come around they'll work perfectly. But what happens when I've been changing soles after 6 months?
The website looks like it is a sizeable company. But I think I'll go and search for something else. Any brand you especially advice?

Sally from sallycat.wordpress.com has a pair of them and she loves them. As does her boyfriend. I've seen them first hand and they seem well made. When their feet get tired, they slip on those shoes.
You should talk to Sally.

KR, why do you think girls have shoe collections??!!! We need one for smooth surfaces, one for rough surfaces, one for outdoors, one for Tuesdays....

And so the addiction begins.

Hi Johanna:

I totally understand your point. But my close friend "Mastercard" doesn't... Unfortunately! ;o)

Tonight at the practica, a woman was wearing this shoe and she LOVES it. They seem very well made, and the changeable soles are attached with super grippy velcro. It's serious work to get them off. They are recessed into the shoe a bit so the surface is even.

She said they were her most comfortable and versatile shoe.

But alas...no heel.

Hi koolricky

Just happened to stumble on this post tonight. Yeah, me and Carlos both have the shoes. I mentioned them in a blogpost in May 2007 when the company was just starting up, because I got to know the guy who owns it, and I really liked the shoes he was making. The shoes are light as a feather, beautifully made, and the changing sole works well. It is the central part under the ball of the foot that can be changed. The removable piece is very secure once installed. It is a clever system.

They do now make shoes with heels for women too, with the same system, as well as women's practice shoes. My practice shoes are unbelievably comfortable, so I imagine the mens shoes might be too. Carlos loves his shoes and is very proud to show them off to everyone!
In case you want to see it with some photos of the interchangeable sole system, here's the post I wrote last year: http://sallycat.wordpress.com/2007/05/18/buenos-aires-the-latest-shoes/

We always forget to take the other bits with us so we don't change our soles much. But we still LOVE the shoes!

Anyway, whatever shoes you choose, I wish you many happy tangos in them, SC.

Hi Sally!

Thank you SO much for your post. I was going to write you an email but I have been busy with Uni work...

Well, I get a bit more confident about it now!
